Erich Pauelsen (1749-1790), Bildnis des Lambert Krahe, Öl auf Leinwand, Düsseldorf, Sammlung der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (NRW)

13 April - 4 August 2013

The Düsseldorf artist and founding director of the Academy of Art Lambert Krahe (15 March 1712 – 2 November 1790) laid the foundation for his internationally renowned collection during his extensive stay in the art capital Rome. Lambert Krahe’s collection is one of the few, if not the only collection gathered by an artist aimed at 18th-century artists that has survived in toto. Museum Kunstpalast will be presenting a survey exhibition of Krahe’s collection as a “collection of studies“ to the public for the very first time. The presentation includes approximately 200 works from all genres: oil studies, drawings, casts of antique sculptures, prints and a fine selection of bibliophile books on art.
