In collaboration with Musée d'Orsay, Paris, and Helsinki Art Museum, Museum Kunstpalast will be presenting a major exhibition dedicated to this eminent 19th-century northern European artist. From the 1880s onward he became the most significant and leading artist of the early modernist period in Finland. This exhibition comprises 75 extraordinary masterpieces and will be the first to offer the French and German public a comprehensive insight into the life and work of Gallen-Kallela spanning over five decades. El Greco and Modernism (28.04.-12.08.2012)

The exhibition reflects on the first encounter a hundred years ago of young avantgarde artists with original paintings by El Greco in Düsseldorf in 1912 (and in Munich in 1911), as well as its lasting impact on early 20th-century art. Museum Kunstpalast will be presenting the first exhibition in Germany to focus on El Greco.

Die Sammlung Hanck umfasst über 1.800 Werke von annähernd 400 Künstlern und bietet eine umfangreiche Übersicht zur Zeichnung der Gegenwart. Vor rund fünf Jahren schenkt der Neusser Pfarrer Wolfgang Hanck dem Museum Kunstpalast seine umfassende Kunstsammlung, die er im Verlauf von zwei Dekaden zusammentrug und dann als abgeschlossen betrachtete. Zeichnungen bzw. Arbeiten auf Papier aus den 1980er und 1990er Jahren bilden den Sammlungsschwerpunkt, doch sind auch Gemälde, Fotos und Plastiken in der Sammlung vertreten. Die Pressekonferenz zu der Ausstellung findet statt am Mittwoch, 16.5.2012 um 11 Uhr im Museum Kunstpalast.

SPOT ON is the title of a museum kunst palast exhibition series which, since its well-received start in 2008, has enabled visitors to discover or re-discover works or work groups within new settings of individually designed project rooms. Exhibitions, which change every six months, include new additions to the museum’s collection, latest research results or restoration successes.
Recycling-Design in Finland (19.04. - 26.08.2012)

The Finnish artists Jukka Isotalo and Jan Torstensson use glass recycling as the basis for their design. Their results are the subject of the guest exhibition from the Finnish National Museum of Glass in Riihimäki, Finnland, which will be on view in the “Belvedere” of the Museum Kunstpalast.

Since its foundation in 2003 the Photographic Archive of Rhineland Artists (AFORK) has acquired an impressive collection of 6000 exhibits and done a great deal to preserve the memory of cultural events in Düsseldorf and Cologne over the past 50 years.

The new presentation illustrates the variety of the collections in the Museum Kunstpalast, one of the few institutions in the Rhineland to accommodate important collections of paintings, sculpture, graphic works, glass, crafts and new media under one roof.
