… for I will not tire of collecting these wonderful works ….

From around 1939, the president of the regional court in Düsseldorf, Dr. Hans Lühdorf (1910–1983), collected expressionist prints and drawings, in order to pass them on to the public. His collection set the highest possible quality standards, and he coordinated acquisitions with the museum right from the beginning.  In 1964 he passed 120 high-calibre sheets to the city of Düsseldorf, most of which have never been on show ever since. Once the works’ provenance has been established, with research currently being carried out with the aid of public sponsorship, the exhibition will present a selection of highlights of German Expressionism from this collection.
