Hommage à K.O. Götz

23.3.2014 - 17.8.2014

The German painter K. O. Götz will be 100 years old in 2014. Museum Kunstpalast celebrates this extraordinary occasion with an exhibition from the holdings of the Kemp Collection Foundation. The collector Willi Kemp has been the artist’s friend for more than 50 years, and in this time he has assembled one of the largest and best selections of works by this great artist.

The presentation includes early works on paper from the mid-1930s as well as the classic, large formats painted in Götz’s hallmark style that bristles with energy and high speed. These paintings are subtle combinations of precision and accident, emanating sensations of positive energy and utter freshness that are still convincing decades after they were made. K. O. Götz is a pioneer of free and lyrical abstraction in German painting, his oeuvre has been influential since 60 years and he paved the way for several generations of German postwar painters until today.
