The Collection

Work on setting up this collection was begun in 1928, when new organisational structures were found for the city of Düsseldorf’s art possessions and the Kunstmuseum was inaugurated at the Ehrenhof exhibition complex. The first area of concentration in 1929 consisted in the acquisition of a number of high-calibre, fourteenth to sixteenth-century sculptures.

Holdings

The Sculpture Collection comprises over 1300 exhibits in all, from the eleventh to the nineteenth century and from small-scale bronzes to ivories and life-size sculptures of wood and stone.

Stained glass by Thorn Prikker in a new light
